Open Day 2011

Friday the 20th May 2011, was UK CRF National Open Day event in which the NIHR Sheffield Clinical Research Facility on the Northern General Hospital site took part, opened its doors to local Sixth Form Schools, Colleges, Universities and members of the public. Visitors received guided tours of the facility showcasing the various specialist rooms and equipment. Staff were also on hand to talk to visitors about the importance of participating in clinical trials and were given the opportunity to have their BP, temperature, height and weight measured. Staff provided visitors with a detailed presentation of the type of work undertaken in the NIHR Sheffield CRF and both clinical and non-clinical staff were available to talk about their jobs and the type of work they do on a day to day basis. Bone scanning equipment, echocardiogram and exercise stress tests were demonstrated by expert technical staff and tours of the cardiac laboratory and bio-repository were provided. Visitor feedback was 100% positive and all agreed that following their visit they understood clinical research better and would consider taking part in a clinical trial in the future.
