Open Day 2012

This event was held in the NIHR Sheffield CRF on the Northern General Hospital campus on Friday 9th March between 1 pm – 4 pm.

For the 3rd successive year the NIHR Sheffield Clinical Research Facility has opened its doors to members of the public, students and staff. On the day, visitors could expect guided tours of the unit, presentations and equipment demonstrations and participate in various interactive sessions. Staff provided information about career opportunities and their commitment to supporting high quality research.

Opportunities to have blood pressure, temperature, height and weight measurements taken and to meet the hospital's’ Infection Control team were also available along with information about various clinical trials and the benefits of these to patients. Both clinical and non-clinical staff were available to talk about their roles within the department. Expert technicians demonstrated specialist bone and heart scanning equipment combined with tours of the laboratory.

Evaluation proved this a successful and thoroughly enjoyable event with attendees agreeing that they now had a better understanding of clinical research and would encourage family and friends to attend future events of this kind.
