Open Day 2013

For the 4th successive year the NIHR Sheffield Clinical Research Facility has opened its doors to members of the public, students and staff at both its Hallamshire and Northern General Hospital Sites.

On the day, visitors received guided tours of the unit including an inside look at what happens in a lab, listened to a short series of talks and participated in various interactive sessions.

Staff were also on hand to provide information about career opportunities and share their enthusiasm for supporting high quality research, whilst volunteers attended to share their own experiences of taking part in clinical trials.

The event also gave the team an opportunity to show their support for the NIHR ‘It’s OK to Ask’ campaign.

Expert technicians demonstrated specialist bone scanning facilities and research staff with expertise in cardiovascular and diabetes research provided opportunities for visitors to learn about research trials in these important areas.Research staff from the Sheffield Children’s Clinical Research Facility and Sheffield’s Hospital’s Charity were present and welcomed questions from our visitors.

Evaluation proved this was a successful and thoroughly enjoyable event. Feedback received from attendees demonstrated this:

100%  confirmed they would consider taking part in a clinical trial if approached
100%  said since their visit to the CRF they had a better understanding of clinical research
100%  confirmed if the event was to run again they would recommend to family and friends
