Placements

Student Nurses

The NIHR Sheffield Clinical Research Facility (CRF) is a cross-site unit where we deliver clinical trials in a safe and purpose built environment. We have links to all clinical directorates and work as both an inpatient and outpatient facility, adapting to specific research protocols.  Students are provided with a student pack which includes self-directed work, and provides an introduction to clinical research and the research process. Students visiting the CRF are also allocated a supervisor and will spend time at both CRF sites as well as with research partners throughout the Trust.

To make the most of this placement opportunity, we expect students to adhere to uniform policy, wear an identity badge at all times and arrive on time.   We encourage students to ask questions, interact with research participants, read protocols and patient information and engage in the research process.

BMedSci

Since 2017 the NIHR Sheffield Clinical Research Facility (CRF) have contributed to the delivery of the ethics module of the BMedSci course run by The University of Sheffield.

This is delivered in a half day session run by CRF clinical and administrative staff and led by the T&E Lead. The session demonstrates specifically how the clinical research delivery team are involved in ensuring ethics are fundamental to the research process in practice and how this impacts on the excellent clinical care that is delivered to patients based on the best research evidence, and demonstrates that research is a front-line activity in the healthcare workforce.

Student Feedback - MSc Student visit March 2024

"I am writing to express my sincere thanks for the opportunity to volunteer and shadow at the Clinical Research Facility. I have gained invaluable insights into clinical research and healthcare practices.

Being able to witness firsthand the day-to-day operations and inner workings provided me with thorough understanding into the facility and its dynamics.

Moreover, the chance to shadow experienced professionals within the organization allowed me to learn from their expertise and gain practical knowledge. Thank you once again for arranging this. It has been a great experience."
