NIHR Clinical Research Facility: Sheffield
The Sheffield Cancer Clinical Trials Centre (CCTC), based at Weston Park Cancer Centre, is a dedicated cancer research delivery facility established in 1999. It is recognised as a centre of excellence for cancer research, supported by highly skilled research staff including Oncology Research Nurses, Research Radiographers, and Clinical Trial Assistants, who provide care for patients throughout their research treatment journey.
CCTC is supported by dedicated data management teams and specialist laboratory facilities, including –80°C freezers for high-quality sample processing and storage, ensuring the delivery of high quality cancer research.
The centre works in close collaboration with departments across Weston Park Cancer Centre, as well as Uro Oncology and Haemato Oncology teams at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, alongside a dedicated Clinical Research Unit at Weston Park Hospital for treatment delivery.
CCTC delivers a broad portfolio of treatment and non-treatment clinical trials across all phases, ranging from first in human experimental cancer studies to observational research. The centre has specific expertise in early phase and experimental cancer trials, screening and early detection, radiotherapy, nuclear medicine, and Advanced Therapy Medicinal Product (ATMP) clinical trials.
CCTC works in close partnership with other Sheffield Teaching Hospitals research facilities, including the Clinical Research and Innovation Office (CRIO), the NIHR Sheffield Clinical Research Facility (CRF) and directorate research teams, ensuring coordinated study delivery and robust research governance.
Currently, CCTC supports more than 140 active clinical trials, covering the full spectrum of adult and teenage cancer types.
