NIHR HealthTech Research Centres (HRCs) are centres of excellence located in leading NHS organisations across England. They accelerate the development of healthcare technologies across industry, academia and the NHS to improve the effectiveness and quality of health and care services.
They do this by helping medical device, digital technology, diagnostics and in vitro diagnostics companies (collectively known as HealthTech) to develop, evaluate and validate new health innovations to address healthcare challenges. This includes help to generate evidence and demonstrate financial value (health economics) or improve operational efficiency in the NHS (real-world evidence generation).
HRCs also help non-life science companies that are working on solutions, such as software developers and digital companies, looking for partners in the NHS to develop and evaluate in the health and care setting.

Devices for Dignity, the NIHR HealthTech Research Centre (HRC) in long-term conditions, is a national organisation hosted at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. They are a multidisciplinary team who work together with other experts to take projects from concept to commercialisation.
Devices for Dignity's commitment is to bridge the gap between pioneering research and practical application, ensuring that beneficial healthcare products and transformative interventions reach patients who need them most, improving quality of life and advancing healthcare worldwide.
They work alongside patients and carers with lived experience of long-term health conditions, which is central to their broader collaborations with clinicians, researchers, designers and industrial partners.
The team look to accelerate equitable access to HealthTech that has evidenced benefits for people with inter-related conditions, supporting them to live their lives well for longer with impacts on dignity, independence and life quality.
