Below you can find some spotlights showcasing the input that research participants and public contributors can have on research studies and shaping the research experience for other patients in the NIHR Sheffield Clinical Research Facility (CRF).
Spotlight (1) Informational videos - virtual tours of the NIHR Sheffield CRF
A consistent theme of participant feedback from the NIHR Participant in Research Experience Survey (PRES) and PPIE panel reviews has been the requirement for more visual resources to enable participants to better prepare for research involvement.
To address this feedback, we have created two videos which show a virtual tour of each of our CRF sites. We hope that the videos will provide information to potential research participants about what to expect when they visit the CRF and where they can find us.
The videos also showcase our diverse workforce, another priority raised by participants who requested to see “people who look like me” to show that the CRF is inclusive and representative of our communities.
The Sheffield Teaching Hospitals Online Patient Panel helped us to determine the content of the videos, write the script and provided feedback for any required edits.
The videos are now available on our website and will be shared with participants in advance of their visit, helping to reduce anxiety and ensuring everyone feels informed and welcomed.
These videos will be enhanced by the recently updated stock photos of our staff, used on our website and engagement leaflets, as well as further information on the website about parking, travel and site maps as requested by the panel members.
The videos, along with other useful information can be found on our Royal Hallamshire Hospital (RHH) CRF page and our Northern General Hospital CRF page.
The image below shows some of the patient feedback received and how we addressed each point.
Spotlight (2) Examples from our nursing staff
The posters below show examples of how some of our NIHR Sheffield Clinical Research Facility (CRF) clinical staff have taken on board feedback from patients taking part in our research studies to improve the experience for future participants.
