Introducing the 'My Research Experience' survey
At the NIHR Clinical Research Facility (CRF): Sheffield, we are committed to putting participants at the heart of everything we do. One of the ways we do this is through My Research Experience, the NIHR's national participant feedback survey.
Previously known as the Participant in Research Experience Survey (PRES), My Research Experience gives people taking part in research the opportunity to tell us about their experience and provide feedback on the care and support they received during their study journey.
Participants taking part in eligible studies will be invited to complete the survey shortly after they have consented to take part in a study and again towards the end of their study participation. Invitations are usually sent by email where we hold a participant's email address, or by post if an email address is not available.
The feedback we receive is invaluable. It helps us understand what we are doing well and where we can make improvements, ensuring that participants continue to have a positive experience when taking part in research at our CRF. By listening to and acting on feedback, we can help make research more welcoming, inclusive and participant-centred.
We encourage all participants in eligible studies to complete the survey. Your views help us to:
understand what is working well in the way research is delivered
identify where changes could improve participant experience
support more inclusive and participant-centred research delivery
We are grateful to everyone who takes the time to share their experience. Every response helps us improve the way research is delivered and supports our goal of providing the highest quality research experience for all participants.

Friends & Family Initiative - July 2026
Friends & Family Initiative - July 2026
In July 2026, as part of the STH Friends and Family Initiative, we invited research participants to share feedback about their experience with our department.
We were delighted to receive 40 responses, including 24 from the Royal Hallamshire Hospital unit and 16 from the Northern General Hospital unit.
Participants spoke very positively about their visits, highlighting the professionalism, friendliness and support provided by our teams, as well as the welcoming atmosphere of our facilities.
Sharing feedback is an important way for participants to help shape and improve our services. We are grateful to everyone who took the time to tell us about their experience.

Friends & Family Initiative - April 2026
As part of the STH Friends and Family Initiative, we gathered feedback over the course of a week in April 2026.
Hearing directly from our research participants about their experience in our department is incredibly valuable. Their comments help us understand what we are doing well and identify opportunities for improvement.
We received 33 responses from participants at our Royal Hallamshire Hospital unit and 20 responses from our Northern General Hospital unit. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with many comments highlighting the excellent work of our teams and the bright, welcoming environment we provide.
Below is a selection of the comments we received. A big thank you to everyone who took the time to share their thoughts—and congratulations to the entire team for their continued hard work.
